As a Model, you will have to face the camera to shoot for commercials, advertisements, music videos, movies, magazines, calendars, catalogues etc. apart from ramp modelling (often referred to as cat walking or runway modelling). You can also be a foot, face, hair or hand model. The modelling industry has diverse domains including plus-size modelling where individuals with a larger body type can also become professional models.
You will need a proper portfolio (collection of your photos clicked by a commercial photographer) to begin as a Model at the entry level and keep adding new photos to it for getting further work projects. You will be working with a model coordinating agency in your initial days.
Models often get shooting calls at the last minute. You have to be ready all the time and be available. Tough timelines and busy schedules are something you have to get used to especially in your initial days if you want to be successful.
You will have to walk on the ramp showcasing various new designs of fashion designers or jewellery designers and attend after parties where various media celebrities may be present. You may also pose for sculptures, paintings, calendar shoots etc.
You should also be very good at talking (public speaking skills) to new people, interviewers, reporters etc. as you will be a familiar face in the Media industry if you can become a top Model.
As the fashion, TV and advertising industries are mushrooming, so there is no as such dearth of jobs on the modelling arena. The modelling field offers an array of job opportunities.
They are not only restricted to modelling yet get good employment opportunities in Bollywood, TV channels, serials, reality shows, game shows, and other TV programmes. Lucrative jobs are available at the ad and fashion industry.
The good model even makes felt his/her presence at the international level and to endorse international brands. In the modelling fields, the models get the opportunity to meet diverse people. The sectors also offer the opportunity to see different locations of the world.
As a model, you are expected to pose for different companies and brands. In the beginning, small brands will collaborate with you to endorse their products after seeing your pictures. After you become famous, big brands like Amazon, FlipKart etc, will collaborate with you for TV commercials and advertisements.
Generally, a male model can begin his career with a starting salary of Rs. 6000-10,000 per show and for female models it is around Rs.10, 000 per show.
Many model coordinators who provide Modelling assignments on a commission basis, which is usually in the bracket of 15% to 20% per assignment. Once established in the industry, the models can earn up to Rs. 2-5 lakhs for a television advertisement.
